Nigeria Launches US$300 Million Distributed Renewable Energy Fund
Nigeria launched a US$300 million Distributed Renewable Energy Fund on 21 September 2026 to expand off-grid and distributed electricity. The fund is designed to combine public and private capital for mini-grids, stand-alone solar systems and other decentralised energy infrastructure.
The structure includes an initial US$25 million contribution linked to the World Bank's International Development Association. The investment model is intended to finance projects that can reach households and businesses for which conventional grid extension remains costly or slow.
The fund sits within the wider Mission 300 agenda, which targets electricity access for 300 million people across Africa by 2030. Nigeria's programme therefore links national distributed-energy investment with a continent-wide access target.
