Mizoram Anthurium Festival Links Women Growers, Tourism and Enterprise
Mizoram’s Anthurium Festival returned on 1 October 2026 after a three-year gap, with a three-day programme running until 3 October at Reiek and nearby Ailawng in Mamit district. Organised by Mizoram Tourism with the Horticulture Department, the festival links commercial floriculture with village tourism, food, handicrafts, cultural performances, trekking and visits to rural communities. Anthurium is one of Mizoram’s established flower products. The festival creates income opportunities not only for flower growers but also for local transport providers, food stalls, guides, accommodation units, craft sellers and small shops.
Mizoram’s anthurium value chain has a measurable trade history. In February 2025, APEDA and the state Horticulture Department facilitated the first shipment of anthurium flowers from Mizoram to Singapore: 1,024 cut flowers weighing 70 kg, packed in 50 boxes. The flowers were sourced from the Zo Anthurium Growers Cooperative Society in Aizawl. Before that, an international buyer-seller meet in December 2024 brought 9 international buyers and 24 domestic exporters to Aizawl.
Earlier state economic survey data recorded about 1. 18 crore stems marketed over a decade at an approximate value of ₹4. 99 crore. The 2026 festival’s development value will depend on how much visitor spending stays with growers, artisans, transport workers, homestays, food businesses and village service providers after the three-day event.
For village tourism, the decisive issue is retention of local value. If flowers are sold through growers, transport is locally hired, food and crafts are locally purchased and homestays are used, the festival can create a distributed rural enterprise chain rather than a short ceremonial event.
