Haryana Rabi Agriculture Fair Connects Farmers with Technology
A two-day Rabi Agriculture Fair opened on 1 October 2026 at Chaudhary Charan Singh Haryana Agricultural University, Hisar. The fair brought farmers, scientists, extension personnel and technology providers together around improved seed, farm machinery, crop-management practices, cotton production, water conservation and crop diversification. Current reporting confirms that 45 progressive farmers were felicitated. The fair functions as an extension platform, placing university research and technologies directly before farmers before the main Rabi sowing season.
Exhibits included improved crop varieties, seed samples, agricultural machinery and production-related products. Cotton received particular attention because Sirsa, Fatehabad and Hisar are important cotton districts. Reports from the event cited 257 Cotton Farmers’ Field Schools reaching more than 7,000 farmers with training on pest identification and management, along with 167 farmer fairs focused on low-cost cotton production. A cotton-picking machine was also demonstrated, with an event claim of one acre per hour under suitable conditions.
Water efficiency was another major theme because Haryana’s wheat-paddy system depends heavily on irrigation. Pulses, oilseeds and other lower-water crops were discussed as diversification options. The value of the fair should be measured beyond attendance: certified seed sales, adoption of displayed technologies, area shifted to improved varieties, change in irrigation water use, pesticide reduction, machinery adoption and yield or income gains after adoption will show its actual farm-level impact. The fair’s placement before Rabi sowing is crucial.
Decisions on seed, irrigation, fertiliser, pest management and machinery are made before planting, so timely exposure to research recommendations can influence production choices in the same season rather than in a later advisory cycle.
