Durga Puja: A Living Cultural Heritage of Bengal

1 min read

Durga Puja is one of Bengal's most visible expressions of collective cultural life—bringing together worship, art, craftsmanship, music, food, neighbourhood participation and community responsibility.

Development Connects is creating this dedicated Durga Puja & Cultural Heritage section to document and share the living traditions of Durga Puja in Bengal. It will host stories, photographs, videos, cultural notes, community initiatives and selected documentation from different years and locations.

The section will also follow our proposal to establish a permanent Barwari Durga Mandir and Durga Puja Park beside the Ganga near Kolkata Airport as a representative space for Bengali cultural heritage. The proposed place is envisioned as inclusive, disciplined and open to people of all communities who respect the norms of a spiritual and cultural public space.

We welcome contributions, memories, photographs, videos, historical information and collaboration from individuals, communities, Puja committees, cultural organisations and institutions that wish to strengthen the documentation and continuity of Bengal's cultural heritage.
