Prospect of Insurance for Farmer Producing Organization in Jharkhand

The insurance schemes are being provided for the farmers of Jharkhand by the government and non-government organizations. This basically safeguard the farmers financially against the non preventable natural risk like natural disasters/calamities, insect, pest and diseases and adverse weather conditions. Recently there are four insurance schemes which are being implemented in Jharkhand as well as other states in India. They are named as:-

· Pradhan Mantri Fasal

Yojana

· Weather Based Crop Insurance Scheme

· Coconut Palm Insurance Scheme

· Pilot Unified Package Insurance Scheme

The farmers should contact the district agricultural officers of the state government, nearest branch of bank, Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS) or crop insurance company operating in the near area for availing the benefits under crop insurance scheme and also the Co-operative banks, Empaneled general insurance companies notified for the area and block development officer may be contacted. With multiple gaps in the current crop insurance structure experts have called for making crop insurance a basic right for farmers – universal, free and compulsory.

In Jharkhand the city of Ranchi it has cover more than 8.5 lakhs of farmer under the PMFBY. It has shown a quantum jump. The state is making a rapid progress in the field of agriculture insurance. As we see agriculture in Jharkhand is highly susceptible to risks like drought and floods. The new crop insurance scheme is in line with One nation- One scheme theme. The uniform premium of only 2% is to be paid by the farmers for all kharif crops and 1.5% for all Rabi crops. There is no upper limit on government subsidy. Smart phones are being used to capture and upload data of crop cutting to reduce the delays in claim payment for farmers. All these new schemes and techniques have become easy and friendly for farmers of Jharkhand.
